What the blood clot’s going on?

Published by David on 12th October - 01:24 (CET)
Chris Bosh, the raptor looking guy that was the franchise player for Toronto Raptors, is heating (sorry, that was the last basketball reference joke) up in the press regarding his health.

CB got diagnosed with blood clots in his lugns after the all-star break last year and was forced to sit out the rest off the season. Although this prevented us from seeing an epic playoff series with the Heat team meeting the guy that brings the talents to places, Lebron James and the Cavs, we're glad Bosh was not severely ill.

One of the main reasons blood clots appear is due to immobilisation of the body, primarily the lower limbs. Long flights are a common cause due to long hours of muscle inactivity. Another reason is due to genetic factors affecting the blood, which increase the risk of getting blood clots. The blood clot, which in most cases arises from the veins in the calves, can travel to the lungs and lead to death if the clot is big enough.

The treatment is giving blood thinners, which is easy, just take a pill a day and you should be cured.

So why wont the heat allow Bosh to play? They still have to pay him $70+ million in salary, no matter if he plays or not.

This is due to the fact that, when on blood thinners, there is a two to five-fold increased risk of intracranial bleeding, which can lead to severe handicap or even death.

Usually you can be off the blood thinners after 6-12 months, however Bosh got his second blood clot this year. This usually means that you have to take them for at least another year and in some cases life-long treatment.

Majority of doctors have advised him not to play but Bosh has apparently got a doctor that's comfortable enough to allow him to play. Pat Riley however said that Bosh's career with the Heat is over but this hasn't stopped Bosh from trying to find another team to play for.

A funny fact is that, with the arguing between Riley and Bosh going on, Bosh hasn't spoken to Riley since it started, which makes Bosh the third of the superstar trio to leave the Heat with bad terms with Mafioso Riley (Thanks Axel for his all-knowing basketball knowledge)

Adding to this soon to become screenplay story, is that if Miami want to completely remove Bosh's salary from the teams cap space, they can not waive him until February 9th which means that the drama will continue.
