Well, that was awkward!

So, opening night '16-'17 came and went, and what did we learn? While some things went just as expected, others surprised most of us.

The Cavs destroyed the Knicks 117-88. While Derrick Rose looked good and very aggressive (god, that feels so inappropriate to write right now), the Knicks as a whole looked uglier than Tayshaun Prince's release. In the first half one could actually see some competitive spirit from the Knicks, spearheaded by Carmelo Anthony who was hot early, but by the end of the third quarter Melo was spearheading his head into a towel to hide from having to watch the decision-making of Brandon Jennings and Kyle O'Quinn. It's obvious that the Knicks need to mesh with all the new pieces, while the Cavs start off the season looking as synced as they ended last year's. Oh, and Lebron dropped a triple double with 19/10/14, no biggie.

No one watched the Blazers beat the Jazz 113-104. Joe Johnson is alive! The man of one facial expression dropped 29 points on the Blazers, only ten fewer than Damian Lillard. Everyone in Portland is talking about the Blazers winning their 16th straight season opener, because there's simply not much to do in Portland, and they have to talk about something and pretend it matters.

Holy shitballs, the Spurs won 129-100 in the Bay! We all knew the Spurs are good, but 29-point-blowout-on-the-road-against-the-Supervillains-good? If anyone bet a dollar on the Warriors and Knicks both losing by 29 points last night, the global economy would have collapsed instantly. The Warriors offense looked amazing at times with Curry and KD giving defenders decision anxieties worse than stoners in a candy shop, but the defense was terrible. Throughout the game the Spurs got to the basket whenever they pleased, with Kawhi leading the onslaught and dropping a career high 35 points. Just like the Knicks, the Dubs need to allow their new pieces to mesh, but getting blown out this badly in the arena they were invincible in last year must sting. But hey, at least JaVale McGee got four minutes and a bucket! As for the Spurs, they seem to be dealing pretty well with Timmy leaving.

Aaaah, feels good to have the NBA back!
