Dumb Injuries

Injuries... It is rarely something funny about it, however during the NBA era there has been some weird, freakish or just plain dumb injuries that makes you either laugh or cry. The latter if it’s your team during the playoffs.

Yesterdays Thunder game versus the Lakers, Enes Kanter did a "Stoudamire", punching a chair causing him to sustain a forearm fracture, missing up to eight weeks.

Kanter is a vital player for the Thunders quest for the playoffs, averaging 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Although all injuries are ill-timed, it did not occur in a as cruicial moment as the Amar'e Stoudamire versus the fire extinguisher incident. Stoudamire, who at that time was in a declining phase of his career, hit his hand in a fire extinguisher in frustration after losing game 2 in the playoffs against “not 3 not 4 not 5 ” Miami Heat.

The injury fortunately only cost him one games absence but could it have ended up badly especially when it comes to Amar'e, that guy makes Ricky Rubio look like superman when it comes to being injury prone.
The 04-05 season, Stoudamire was paired with one of the greatest point guards to play the game (Steve Nash) he averaged 26 points per game and the Phoenix Suns had the league best record with 62 wins. The duo was even compared to the Hall of Famers Malone and Stockton.
During the following season, Stoudamire was diagnosed with knee cartilage injury and underwent microfracture surgery. Following years Stoudamire managed to stay somewhat healthy but during his stretch with Knicks, his troublesome knee problems came back causing him to miss out on the bigger part of his five year career with the Knicks.

Other mentionable bizarre injuries

Kevin Johnson
After hitting a game-winning buzzer beater, the Phoenix Suns point guard, and now mayor of Sacremento, dislocated his shoulder after a celebrating hug from Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley
Sir Charles does not only inflict others with his clumsiness. Apparently Barkley missed the Phoenix Suns' 94-95 season opener because body lotion burned off the first layers of his eye (the corneas) during an Eric Clapton concert.

Lionel Simmons
Drafted by the Kings in 1990. The L-Train got tendinitis in his wrist by playing too much Game Boy causing him to miss a couple of games.

Andrew Bynum
After being traded to the Sixers while still rehabilitating his knee, he aggravated the injury during a bowling game. Bynums lack of commitment was probably the biggest factor but "the could have been a great big guy" Bynum never played a game for the Sixers.
